Recent Doctor's Visit

I had an appointment with my cardiologist today. He checked my blood pressure which was 120/77. Pretty normal. He ran an ECG and everything seemed to check out.

Could the PGX, Fish oils and multivitamins be helping?

Challenges All Around

The days after Halloween can be such a challenge. I though the horror was supposed to stop Nov. 1st. All those little bit sized treats everywhere. Now going for 25% off, 40% off, 60% off. It's so, so hard to resist.

Plus the holiday season is just around the corner, I'd better keep in control of my snacking and exercise more.

Noon hour run

After a failed attempt to run last night, I was determined to get a run in today. Last night I was foiled when I was on my way to run when I ran into two friends. Bending my rubber arm I was wisked away to the coffee shop. So today I brought my running gear to the office and went on a noon hour run. Felt great to be outside!

Good for me!

Just patting myself on my back. This week has been a good one so far. I have been exercising by riding my spin bike while watching tv and I went for a run today after work.

As well a coworker gave me a small Toblerone chocolate bar on Tuesday. I haven't eaten the whole thing yet. Before that would have been gone in 60 seconds. Yah me!

Vice-Busting Diet Second Edition

So I am in the middle of reading the Vice Busting Diet by Julia Havey. Now I can see why PGX is promoting her book. She mentions PGX a whole bunch of times. Of course the skeptic in me question asks how much has she benefited by mentioning PGX so many times. But good for her on capitalizing on her life successes.

I have found her book, or plan rather, easy to read. A practical approach to having a healthier lifestyle. Her approach is step by step and does not promise overnight results. I guess that is why she fits in with the manufacturers of PGX.

She puts in more eloquent terms and I dare say a whole bunch more inspiring than I do so I would still recommend a read. She also provides success tips for each week. For those of you who just want the notes. Here is the plan.

Week 1 - Bust your soft drink diet vice with the goal to drink more water.
Week 2 - Bust your fast food vice and replace them with healthy substitutes
Week 3 - Bust your tv vice and replace it with exercise
Week 4 - Visualize and affirm
Week 5 - add PGX
Week 6 - Increase exercise
Week 7 - Increase Fiber
Week 8 - Clean you house; clean you life
Week 9 - add supplements such as antioxidants to fight free radicals
Week 10 - Eat a healthy breakfast
Week 11 - Eat a healthy lunch
Week 12 - Eat a healthy dinner

Seems simple enough. Why not do it? Personally I believe I have been following most of these tips for the past year anyway including PGX in my diet. I am glad that this book reaffirms that the steps the I have been taking for a healthy lifestyle are good.

Take Two!

So as the days zip buy and we are closing in on the holiday season just around the corner. It's a good time to recharge and build up some energy. To reset the clock and motivate myself some more I am going to read the Vice Busting Diet. When I am done I'll make my book report.

Just as I view PGX as a tool, I will hopefully be able to use this book to assist me to living a healthier lifestyle. With a healthier lifestyle this should mean a healthier body.

My problem lately has been energy. I have a 3 month old baby so along with my 3 year and 4 year old rest has not come easy. I have been exercising in the evening after the children are asleep but unfortunately it is not enough time. If there are any useful tips I'll share them.

PGX Helping 1 million people lose weight - for free

Sounds like a pretty audacious. PGX is launching a campaign this fall offering an online program for consumers. They have enlisted Julia Havey, author of the Vice-busting Diet, to champion their cause. Hopefully, I can get my hands on her book soon.

PGX will be revamping their site to offer 24/7 access to a variety of online tools and coaching to support people's weightloss goals. The site is supposed to be free so I'll check it out. I am not certain when the exact launch will be but I will be sure to update.

For Better Workouts Rethink Your Log book

How many of you have or had a fitbook or fitness log book? Looked pretty sweet for the first while. Every little detail filled in; hell even the "This Book Belongs to:" is filled out. All my meals, my workouts, my moods etc. How do the more recent pages look? I'll tell you how mine look. BLANK. It is not that I am not working out. But writing it down afterwards is the least pleasurable thing about working out.

I have rethought the whole process and decided to turn it all around. I am writing my workouts and meals before they happen. This motivates me to do more during my workouts and leaves less to temptation. Namely, that little voice that says, "that's enough for now" or "I'll just eat whatever".

After writing my week's worth of workout down ahead. I do not give myself any excuses not to do them. I keep the workouts short to make sure I can have time to do them.

eg.
Monday - ride bike 45 min;situps 25 x 4; plank 20' x 4; stretch
Tuesday - biceps 16 x 3; shoulders 16 x 3; triceps x 20 x 3;pushups 30 x 3; stretch
Wednesday - Golfing; stretch; situps 25 x 4; plank 20' x 4
Thursday - ride bike 45 min; lunges 10 x 3; leg curls 12 x 3; calf raises 20 x 3; stretch.
Friday - Rest
Saturday - 60 min run; Bike 45 min; stretch
Sunday- biceps 16 x 3; shoulders 16 x 3; triceps x 20 x 3;pushups 30 x 3; stretch

After One Year on PGX Daily?

Its been about 1 year since I started taking PGX Daily. During this time a lot has happened. I found out I had a previously undetected heart condition so I have had to change the type of exercises I can do. I made a couple business trips which made it hard to keep a healthy schedule. I had a family vacation to Disneyland with the kids which was also hard but manageable with regards to diet. I also renovated a washroom and worked full-time. But it's report card time so not matter what the excuses are here are the results.

I have been taking: (most days ~ not everyday ~ )

PGX Daily or No Nonsense PGX Meal Replacement
Omega 3 Fish oil
Resveratrol
Multi Vitamin
CoQ10

I exercise 2-3 times per week. Usually a bike ride or walk. I wish it were more than 2-3 times but life happens.

I started at 192lbs BMI: 27

Today 180lbs. BMI: 25

Still have a little more to go... but I am getting there. Special thanks to my loving wife for all her support. Making a changes in my diet have been so much easier with her help. Also thank you to the customer service at NatVD for making PGX Daily available, giving me motivation and recipes. A shout out to any readers out there striving to take control of their health. Best of luck.

No Nonsense

This week is a no nonsense week for me. I feel like I am beginning to lose focus on my goals for a healthier body weight. Not catastrophic but I feel myself losing interest or rather focus. A piece of cake here or a cookie there. Do you know what I mean? It seems to come and go for me. About every two-three months I need something to pick up my motivation for keeping fit and losing weight.

This weekend I got together with some old teammates for dinner. It's been 10 years since we have seen each other. Besides laughing over old stories and episodes of foolishness we had time to catch up on everyone's lives. Seeing how health plays such an important role is quality of life I've found a little more motivation to keep in control.

This morning I happen to wake up early so I had a quick ride on the spin bike before work. Cereal and fruit for breakfast & PGX Daily along with my other supplements in the morning. PGX No Nonsense Meal replacement for lunch. I have to keep it up!

Is Travel The Killer of Your Diet?

I am on a business trip again and using another tool to keep me honest to myself. I have been keeping a food journal to monitor my habits. So far so good. I have not put on any extra weight. If fact according to this Hotel's scale I am 4 lbs lighter then when I left.

On the airplane I will have the fish or chicken if possible. I will pass on the bun unless it is whole grain. And the preservative filled vacuum packed dessert is returned with the tray.

At the hotel when breakfast is included I will load up on salads and fruits before having some cereal or whole grains. I have had an omelette once in the pass week to change it up a little bit. The journal is making sure I am not having them everyday along with bacon, sausages and hash browns. You know what I mean?

It can be impossible to fit in a workout everyday but I have my PGX Daily and other supplements in tow to help me out.

PGX Diet in Disneyland

Our trip to Disneyland was highly anticipated by all. We made the early morning trek to the airport and boarded the flight happily without much trouble. We brought along some sandwiches and fruit for breakfast at the airport. Since you can not bring liquids through security I had to stand in a massive line at Tim Horton's to buy milk for the kids. I resisted buying a sour cream glazed donut or even a double double. Score on for the good guys.

After arriving in Los Angeles and picking up the rental car, we drove to Venice Beach area in hopes of letting the kids run around outside for away. Unfortunately, the early morning start meant they we happily snoozing before we could reach our destination. Plan B was to drive to Anaheim in relative peace & quiet. So far so good except traveling with a pregnant wife meant food is needed. With two sleeping children in the car you know what that means drive thru. I let my wife choose (she is the pregnant one) and it was off to the nearest McD's. I ordered a coffee instead of a soft drink and only a burger no fries. Not exactly the great start but oh well.

I suggested to my wife the we stop buy a grocery store to pick up some supplies which she was okay with. I figured this would be the only way to prevent constant drive thru meals. We stopped at a local grocery store in Anaheim to pick up fruit, juice, lunch meat, bread, milk, cheese and other staples before heading to the hotel.

Having located a local grocery store was key to the survival of my diet habits. Throughout the trip we made a couple stops there to restock. For two of the three days we went to Disneyland we brought our lunches with us. The other day we exited the park and ate at Denny's on S. Harbor Blvd. Not too bad as my wife and I split a salad and sandwich plate. For dinner we hunted out some restaurants that were not too heavy on the fried foods. We ate at a Korean Restaurant in Buena Park, McCormick & Schmicks for Seafood, Olive Garden in Santa Ana for Pasta (I took a lot of it back to the hotel; it was too much food), and Vietnamese food in Little Saigon.

All in all I would call it a draw. I wouldn't say my diet while being away was perfect but I think it was better than it could have been. Some planning ahead made food choices better and self control was a key. I still took my PGX Daily to minimize the blood sugar highs and low due to poor food choices. As a result I had no cases of "I'm starving give me food" and later on saying "ooh I shouldn't have eaten so much. I feel awful."

The kids had a great time and still talk about Disneyland. I had a great time with them enjoying Disneyland, the beach and swimming at the hotel. I was glad to have a little getaway without a lot of guilt about eating poorly. I am still on the wagon for my PGX diet and ready for the next challenge.

Spring Break

It's Spring Break time and it's off to Disneyland with the kids. The kids are extremely excited to see Mickey Mouse and the gang. I am looking forward to spending some quality family time. My wife and I always say we better enjoy them now while they still want us to play with them.

One concern for me is the food on these types of trips. In the past going on trip's like these have been murder of any diet I have had. Is it truly inevitable that I will end up with a burger and fries? I am trying a "be prepared" motto in this case. I have packed some snacks for the airport and plane ride so I do not end up at the golden arches by the boarding gate or having to consume whatever is on the plane.

In and around Disneyland I am bringing some meal replacements and PGX along with my other supplements like Q&G, Reversatrol and Omega-3. I am hoping the PGX will stave of endless nibbling.

I will update how it goes.

Back on Track

I had my daily dose of PGX Daily today after missing for a few days. At dinner time I was definitely felt full or satiated earlier. I even made the comment to my spouse who noticed that I was not having as much for dinner.

Fell Off the Wagon

I have gone wayward and been neglecting my PGX Daily system for the past two weeks. Several excuses kids are sick, renovations going on, work etc.

Anyways, this week will be better. I promise MYSELF.

Did you redeem?

Hopefully you had a chance to take advantage of the $5.00 PGX daily coupon. It was a good deal. I paid $49.98 each for 240 softgels minus the $5.00. When I orders two (2) bottles.

The past weekend was good as far as eating. No breakdowns in will power. Tonight might be a test dinner as I have dinner with my in-laws. It is difficult to avoid the bad eating habits when I have dinner with them because that enjoy fine foods too much. I will prevail today!

My way to Use PGX

Currently, I am using PGX in the following manner. I eat two or three regular healthy meals each day. If I only have two meals then I use the No Nonsense Meal Replacement. In addition I use PGX Daily softgels once or twice a day to curb my snack attacks.

One thing I noticed is that I still have a habit of eating not because I am hungry but because I am bored or used to eating.

Some tricks I have been trying:
- Out of sight; out of mind - it was really hard during the holiday season with all the treats and goodies around. But now the holidays are gone it is a lot easier to tuck away junk food and keep eating properly.

- Chewing away - taking a page from some of the most addicted people's, i.e. smokers, handbooks. I am using gum. They called it oral fixation. I think in a lot of ways I am the same as a smoker trying to quit. I would put food in my mouth not even thinking. Now the I am using PGX to curb my appetite I have to reprogram my mind a little.

- Keep Moving - I have to keep myself busy. Without sports to occupy myself I have gone for walks and I am thinking about downloading some podcasts to occupy my brain while I exercise in this way. Gone are the days of pounding out a 30 min run so I'll need to use 60 min or longer walks to keep fit.

Anyone else have any tips?

Doing Better Before It is Too Late

Getting sick or developing a disease isn't something any of us like to think about but it does happen. And what happens when it does? There is this moment of panic as a quick series of questions race through your mind repeatly, "what are the chances it is serious?, what will happen to my family? what will happen to me?". Then there is the search for all the answers to these questions which only leads you to more. "what are the treatments, what is the mortality rate, what is the prognosis?". You scour the internet and health books. You make countless visits to doctors or your healthcare professionals for answers.

So begins a new stage in your life. When you were younger health issues did not concern you daily. Health and wellness did not invade your everyday life. Only more pressing matters like making more money, getting an education or finding true love occupied your thoughts. After having a serious health event changes the way you think. It changes the way you approach life.

You will vow to do everything in your power to overcome this or prevent it. You'll not only follow the doctor's advice but you'll do better. Permitting, you'll exercise more, eat better and take better care of yourself.

You'll only regret that you waited to take better care of yourself

New Year 2010

The New Year usually brought on a new goal to get in shape. In past years it would mean I would pick up the weights or go for runs. I would usually make up a calender not only to write what I have done but to write down what I am going to do. I used this calendar as a visual reward for a month of hard work.

Since I can not do heavy exercises at the moment I am writing a nutritional calendar.

January 2010

PGX Daily Softgels 4-6 per day - Natural Factors
Q&G tablets 1 sachet per day - Natvd.com
ResverterolRich 1 capsule per day - Natural Factors
Omega-3 1000 mg Softgel- 1 softgel - Natvd.com
Multivitamin tablets Webber Naturals (WN Pharmaceuticals)

Typical Menu - lots of water throughout the day.

Breakfast
Toast/Cereal

Snacks
Fresh Fruit

Lunch
PGX Meal Replacement
or
PGX Daily softgels prior to lunch; if I haven't packed a simple meal my favorite is asian restaurants because you can usually get steamed rice with fish & vegetables or a noodle soup which is not too bad for you. I know it is not the greatest but I prefer it to a greasy burger and fries. By the way, I am not taking fast food asian food.

Afternoon
PGX Daily softgels

Dinner
Steamed/boiled Vegetables
Rice or Pasta
Protein source: fish, chicken or occasionally beef.
